The Week in Links

• Confession time: I work in social media, and I don't consistently use any monitoring or managing tools. (Bless me father, for I have sinned.) I just... well... I don't manage multiple brands on social media, I don't obsess over metrics, and I don't like paying for services I'm not sure I'll end up enjoying or using. BUT - here's a list of 14 social media tools from Cindy King on Social Media Examiners that is very handy. I have even used a good handful of the ones on the list!

• GIFs on Facebook? GIFs on Facebook!!! All thanks to Giphy.  It initially appears as a 1video on the news feed, but once someone clicks play it will loop as a GIF for-eeeeevvvvv-eeeeerrrr.

• Want to learn more about the how and why Oberlin College made its fabulous Parental Advice video? You should! Ma'ayan Plaut goes into detail on the Oberlin College blog

• Interested in dipping your toes into the murky waters of Tumblr? Here's a nice guide to Tumblr by Stephanie Frasco on Convert with Content.

• My most popular post this week... same as last week: 50 Great Social Media Ideas in Higher Ed Part 1 and Part 2.  Many thanks to everyone who shared this post - it helped make August the best month yet for the blog! Much love to my readers... all seven of you (including you, mom!)

 • Great article about MIT's awesome "MIT Connect" social media hub site by Abbey Pratt on the Uversity blog.

That's all I've got! Now, as if I could leave you all with a song other than the incredible "What Does the Fox Say?" aka Summer Jam 2013! (Move over Blurred Lines and Get Lucky.) Gosh I love Norway.
