The Week in Links

I'm not sure why I feel like now is the right place to do this, but everyone... I apologize for sucking so much at Twitter. I'm trying - really trying! - to be better at it, but it's just not really in my DNA yet. If you've tweeted at me and hit a stone wall of silence, you have my regrets. All of them.

And with that, onto the week in links!

• Yowza! What an awesome article by Georgy Cohen on The State of Social Media in Higher Ed in Link, the journal for higher ed web professionals. So many people I respect and admire are quoted in this article... it's a (veritable) smorgasbord of awesomeness.

• My most popular post of the week: The fun happy birthday video from University of Virginia.

• If you're looking for a super handy-dandy cheat sheet for social media image sizes, look no further than this one from the Pink Group. Many thanks to Joey Spencer for passing this along to me.

• In case you missed it, check out the recap of this week's #casesmc Twitter chat about analytics. I participated, albeit poorly... mainly because I'm super, duper lazy about analytics.

• The great Chris Syme has an interesting post on her blog about Idaho State University's bold decision to do a free tuition giveaway with a social media contest. It's great how Chris talked to Idaho State staff to get some insight into the promotion. Imagine that - a blogger who goes the extra mile. Sigh... the inadequacy of this blog never fails to rear its ugly head.

• Don't miss this round-up of the best content of 2013 on the CASE blog. Unsurprisingly, some of the #hesm folks I have gotten to know a bit on Twitter and I admire the most are included on this list.

• If you've got a few minutes, check out this great post by Andrew Twist of the University of Sheffield on the Web+Higher Ed Medium page. It's chock-full of good thoughts about working in social media in higher ed, and as someone who, like Andrew, has a journalism background, I particularly enjoyed his insights about how social media content creators should think of themselves as newsrooms.

OK... there's a lot more good stuff out there this week, but I'm plum wiped out so I'm going to stop here. But before I go, I'm going to close out Shoegazer January with this lovely song by Ride. Enjoy, and have a wonderful weekend!
