Great Social Media Idea: Interactive Map!

I've been under the weather the past few days, so apologies for my lack of posting and for what will be a very quick post today.

But I wanted to take a moment to arise from my bed and pause the Netflix for just a moment to give some props to Ohio State for this really cool interactive map feature they created while announcing several students who won Fulbright scholarships:

Not only is it a really cool way to market both a school's successful students and global impact, but it's also a great way to get some really good social interaction going... as you can see in the photo I posted, friends and family members of the students highlighted were commenting, sharing, and tagging up a storm.

I'm really loving seeing all the cool and innovative ways schools are announcing rankings and awards like this. What could have been just a boring press release with a bullet point list of all the students and their scholarships is instead a really neat interactive feature that is perfectly tailored for use on social media. Definitely a powerful example of thinking outside the box when announcing things like this and optimizing the content to reach a much wider audience than would ever be possible with a traditional press release.

And, of course, this jibes with my general theory that no matter what you do on social media, people LOVE photos of themselves and their friends.  :)

Good stuff, Buckeyes!
