The Week in Links

I promise that next week I'll start posting again, but until then... here's some great stuff from other people!  :)

• Here's a recap of last night's #EMchat that focused on social media use for enrollment management professionals. Lots of good stuff in there.

• Neat story  by James Bradshaw in the Globe and Mail about University of Western Ontario's use of social media to leverage alumna Alice Munro's Nobel Prize to help with fundraising. 

• If you use Instagram for your college, definitely check out Statigram's offer to create a free 15 second video highlighting your most-liked photos from 2013. I made one for UP, and it came out really sharp and snazzy.

• In case you missed it earlier this week... here's my manifesto about social media trends in 2013 and what I hope to see in 2014.

• Philippe Taza has a nice rundown on EDUniverse of trends in higher education marketing in 2013, complete with spiffy infographics!

• I saw a lot of people posting links to the "Facebook is 'dead and buried' to teenagers" article by Jemima Kiss in The Guardian, but it's very much worth reading this rebuttal from Will Oremus on Slate. (And this one from Oremus too: Facebook isn't cool, never will be cool, and doesn't have to be cool.)

• Don't miss this round-up of great higher ed Holiday Cards by Karine Joly on College Web Editor. And be sure to check the comments too for lots of other great examples.

• Oh yes, even MORE #EDUholidays action, this time from Travis Brock on Educational Marketing Group's blog.

• Check out this fun "getting to know you" post from Marisa Peacock on Ed Social Media. I was't tagged in it, and for now I'm too lazy to actually follow through on the prompts, but I want to!

OK, that's it for now! Back to your regularly scheduled broadcast next week. After nearly a 14 hour day today in my first day back to work since Dec. 23, all I can say is... vacation, I miss you. So, so, so very much.

And in memory of Ben Curits, co-founder of the great band School of Seven Bells (a favorite of mine a few years ago) who passed away recently after a battle with cancer, here's my favorite song from them. RIP. Ben.
